Open Cell Backer Rod is used to fill the majority of the void in a joint acting as a barrier to limit the depth of sealant required and prevent excessive sealant use. It assures a uniform bead, consistent with the sealant manufacturers specifications , to finish filling the joint and create an airtight and watertight seal. Open Cell Backer Rod helps sealants assume the optimum hour glass shape to prolong the sealant service life. It is commonly used in applications such as expansion and contraction joints, window glazing, curtain wall partitions, parking decks and bridge construction. Open-cell polyurethane foam is an inert material, and therefore, it is physically and chemically compatible with virtually all known hot-pour and cold-applied sealants including silicone. Its non-gassy properties eliminating the possibility of sealant failure from out-gassing.
