FHC Encapsulating Art
Glass With Super Spacer ®
Enhancing the energy efficiency of specialty art glass windows has gained
popularity through the encapsulation of panels within the air space of an
insulating glass unit. However, it’s crucial to ensure sufficient clearance
between the art glass and the outer layers to prevent contact during the Art Glass
expansion and contraction of the air space. Equally important is the complete
curing of all grouting materials used in the art glass fabrication to avoid Air Space Air Space
trapping solvents within the unit, which could potentially cause fogging in the
future. The process of creating insulating glass units of this kind begins with
the formation of a guide groove in the Super Spacer®. Subsequently, the Super Glass Glass
Spacer® is securely attached to the art glass panel approximately every two
or three inches (51 or 76 mm) using an instant adhesive such as our Item No. Grooved
LT40140, with the groove serving as a centering guide. Once this is done, the Super Spacer®
release liner on one side of the Super Spacer® is removed, and the panel is
centered over the first layer of glass. Afterward, the remaining release liner is
removed, and the second layer of glass is aligned directly over the first one.
Finally, the unit is sealed using Hot Melt Butyl or Item No. 1G877 Sealant. Hot Melt Butyl or

FHC APSSN1 Air Powered Muntin Notcher, along with the appropriate die
and punch. Once the Muntin Bar grid is securely fitted together, insert
the suitable Muntin Bar Clips. For larger Muntin Bar grids, you may need
to utilize internal muntin joiners. To connect the spacer frames with the
Muntin Bar Clips, drill or punch at the connecting points using an electric
hand drill, drill press. Subsequently, assemble the completed Muntin Bar
grids into the spacer frame. Prior to sealing the unit with Item No. F19A
Glass Cleaner, ensure that the Muntin Bars are cleaned. Avoid using
MEK, alcohol, or similar chemicals for cleaning. Apply primary and/or ITEM NO. APSSN1
secondary insulating glass sealant following standard procedures. Muntin Notcher
NOTE: In scenarios where fabrication
necessitates prolonged exposure of
interior surfaces, use a hair dryer or
hot air gun to eliminate dust particles
or other contaminants from the
exposed surfaces.
