Breather Tubes Breather Tube
If you plan to transport the unit from lower elevations
to altitudes of 5,000 feet or more (or vice versa),
it’s important to follow these steps in the production
process: Install FHC Item No. CT3003 Breather Tubes
(see page IG32) into the spacer frame. Create a small
hole in the spacer frame using an awl, center punch, nail, Spacer
or drill. Insert the Breather Tube into the hole and apply
sealant around the base of the tube.
Primary Seal
Application
Apply FHC Item No. P1B210 Polyisobutylene (PIB)
Primary Seal to the spacer. PIB Tape is available in strips
on waxed paper rolls. Remove the release paper from the
underside of the PIB strip, then place the PIB strip onto
one side of the spacer frame. Note that dual-seal spacers
have a groove designed to accommodate the PIB strip.
Press the PIB strip into the corners to prevent moisture
infiltration. Only use one PIB strip at a time. Position the
second clean glass pane on top of the spacer, ensuring
that the corners are squared and evenly aligned. Place
weights over the spacer to compress the PIB strip and
ensure a secure seal.
